The very first missionary to Bidar. He arrived on horseback from Raichur following the orders of the then-Bishop. At the time, there was no mission house; he and his wife stayed in a rented room in the old government hospital area (near what is now the “Mahmood Gawan” madrasa). They are credited with planting the “seed” of the Methodist faith in the district.
As the second missionary, he brought a medical focus. He was a doctor by profession and initially treated patients in a small bungalow. In 1905, he started a Kannada primary school in “Mazaarpur” (a local area) to provide education to the marginalized and poor children who were otherwise neglected.
He significantly modernized the mission’s medical reach. He built a dedicated “Sick Room” (hospital ward) and an operating theatre. He is noted for starting a “Tablet Industry” (pharmacy) to produce medicines locally, making healthcare more affordable for the villagers.
He and his wife arrived by bullock cart from Vikarabad. Seeing the poverty in the villages, they started schools in huts and taught vocational skills. They selected ten local families, trained them, and sent them back to their villages as teachers and leaders.
Even after retiring to the US, in 1983 he requested his memorial be associated with the people of Bidar.
